RIVERS EDGE IS AMONG THE TOP 10 COURSES IN NORTH CAROLINA,
SAYS GOLFWEEK March 16, 2005, Myrtle Beach, S.C.
Rivers
Edge Golf Club is one of the Top 10 golf courses in
North Carolina, according to Golfweek magazine. The
magazine released its ninth listing of America's Best
in its March 5 edition, ranking Rivers Edge number 10
on a prestigious list that includes the famed Pinehurst
No. 2 and Pine Needles in Pinehurst, N.C., both of which
have hosted major professional golf tournaments. Rivers
Edge Golf Club is an 18-hole Arnold Palmer championship
golf course routed over the bluffs and along the marshes
overlooking the scenic mile-wide Shallotte River. Since
opening in 1999, when myrtlebeachgolf.com named it Best
New Course on the Grand Strand, Rivers Edge has received
numerous accolades. Palmer ranks Rivers Edge's 9th hole
as his 15th most challenging design of the more than
2,700 he and his team have built in the eastern United
States. In addition, Rivers Edge was recently named
one of the top 100 residential courses in America by
Golfweek. The 570-yard par 5 9th hole is considered
Rivers Edge's signature hole. It has been described
as, the most diabolical hole here - the one by which
most golfers singularly measure their success for the
day. The course offers five sets of tees so that all
golfers may enjoy a memorable round. Golfweek's team
of 350 trained raters reviewed thousands of golf courses
across the United States before choosing the top courses
in each state. Golfweek's ratings are based on such
criteria as overall routing; quality and consistency
of feature shaping; the land plan; interest of putting
surfaces and greens surrounds; variety and memorability
of the par 3s, par 4s and par 5s; course conditioning;
landscape and tree management; and Golfweek's trademark
walk in the park test, according to Bradley Klein, Golfweek
senior writer. Rivers Edge is known for its visually
stunning scenery. Creeks, wetlands, ponds and salt marsh
areas provide both a challenge for the course as well
as beauty throughout. Rivers Edge Golf Club is managed
by Signature Golf Group.
